We’re Humans, not Robots!!

comp picYes, Humans!  All day our senses are stimulated with loads of visual images, words on sites, documents, and videos of this and that. We laugh, we cry, we tweet, click like, hash-tag  yell at the screen and anything else that comes to mind. Which is super fine and dandy. It’s the age of technology and we must keep up with the times. However, let’s not forget that on the other side of those emails, post, tweets, and pictures; are humans and not robots. Sometimes I am in awe as I scroll post and tweets and see how bold and rude people can be. A simple posting of a picture or video can often bring dozens or even hundreds of angry or hateful comments.

Real people with real feelings and emotions are on the other side of those comments. While visiting cyberspace, it can be easy to type the first thing that comes to mind or be overly aggressive and judgmental. That’s right, because you’re the new flavor of the week and everyone wants to hear from you. Wrong! Okay, maybe someone does; but we all could be more mindful of the words we choose when expressing ourselves.

When using technology to communicate (not via skype, face-time, etc) there’s no visible reaction from the other side; or instant display of emotion to feel.  People sending the negative message do not feel any type of connection to the person receiving the message. They may even feel more protected and comfortable with sending and posting hateful or disrespectful comments.  Cyber-bullying can happen to adults and children.

It seems as if it has gotten easier to connect with friends, fans, followers, family, and co-workers; yet there is even a greater disconnect to the human feeling. While benefiting from the comforts of digital connections; let’s be more mindful of the people behind those connections. If you’re already doing a good job of this, you’re super awesome…so pass it on. Let’s enjoy cyberspace; but continue to enjoy games, hangouts, dinners, and other time spent with family and friends. After all, We’re Humans, Not Robots! Have you experienced similar feelings or have suggestions on how others can handle the Cyber Grinch’s? We’d love to hear from you. Comment below!

Excellent reminder and focus on our essential being. We get so caught up in the wave of technological interaction that we lose sight of human relations.
